Defining & Evaluating Partner Performance

The role of the partner in the modern law firm has evolved into much more than just doing the work. Partners now are expected to grow the work and build and lead successful teams in addition to advising clients and billing.

A transparent, fair, and consistent method of evaluating partner contribution and development is crucial. Remuneration schemes aligned to partner performance can navigate around any sense of inequity that often results in dissatisfaction and demotivation. High performing partners need to be recognised, praised, and rewarded and rightly so. They need to have the infrastructure in their team to deliver success.

Underperformance also needs to be tackled by a robust partner performance review process that identifies the cause of the underperformance, provides training or support mechanisms to improve performance and sets SMART objectives.
