Quality Assurance

30+

Years of Experience

For over 30 years I have successfully led Quality Assurance implementation projects for Lexcel, ISO9001, Conveyancing Quality Scheme and Wills and Inheritance Quality Standard and guided firms through numerous third-party audits, gaining extensive experience along the way.

Why is it important?

Quality Assurance should be the foundation of your work culture and a framework by which you drive continuous improvement in your firm.

Building a positive Quality Assurance culture within your firm will lead to more long-term profit as satisfied clients will act as brand ambassadors for your firm; which translates into more work. It will set clear expectations for everyone in your firm – exceptional service - every client, every time, should be your aim, delighting your clients in the process and minimising the risk of complaints.

Having the right approach

So, what is the secret of a successful Quality Assurance project in a law firm? It is all about gaining buy in from your partners and staff to the benefit of which ever quality assurance grading you are aiming to achieve.

Aim to win hearts and minds and gain commitment to the project by explaining the benefits that will be derived from achieving the Quality Assurance grading. Ensure your partners and staff see beyond the project just being about gaining a Kite mark from the Law Society and that it is part of driving continuous improvement in your firm with all the consequential benefits to the bottom line.

My Experience

I first became involved in Quality Assurance gradings in the legal profession over twenty years ago with the introduction of Legal Aid franchising at Leo Abse and Cohen.

With the launch of Lexcel by the Law Society in 1998, Leo Abse and Cohen became the first firm in Wales to achieve Lexcel, and at that time only one of three firms in England and Wales to hold both Lexcel and ISO9001 accreditation at the same time.

My commitment to Quality Assurance has continued throughout my career. At Warners LLP where I steered the firm through two annual assessments, Debenhams Ottaway where I introduced Lexcel, Conveyancing Quality Scheme and Wills and Inheritance Quality Standard, and B.P Collins which is also a Lexcel and Conveyancing Quality Scheme accredited firm. Debenhams Ottaway were in the first tranche of law firms in England and Wales to be awarded Wills and Inheritance Quality Standard by the Law Society.

How I Can Help

Things I have spent a career delivering and will be able to help your firm with include:

  • Gaining commitment from partners and staff before the project starts by explaining what is involved and what it means for them.
  • Implementing the Quality Assurance grading, ensuring that your documented practices and procedures meet each aspect of the Quality Assurance standard.
  • Training your lawyers and support staff in the new procedures.
  • Assisting you to embed a culture of compliance and buy in to the Quality Assurance regime.
  • Pre-assessment trial runs to ensure that your organisation is ready for audit depending on the Quality Assurance requirement.
  • Support during the audit process including help addressing any corrective actions.

If you are thinking of applying for, or are having difficulties maintaining accreditation with Lexcel, Conveyancing Quality Scheme, Wills and Inheritance Quality Standard or Specialist Quality Mark please get in touch, I would be delighted to assist.
